Format
Contestants compete in groups called Houses, with members performing individually or in groups in pre-assigned categories before a panel of judges. In seasons 1 and 2, each House includes five members, led by a Mother or Father. The panel consists of four permanent judges and a fifth guest judge who changes each episode. Most categories have a qualifying round where each House's representative performs; judges show approval with a "ten" or disapproval with a "chop."
To advance, a contestant must receive no chops. In the second round, contestants face knockout battles, with the winner decided by a majority of judges' votes. When a category involves all House members, each House performs and receives critiques, then a winner is determined by consensus. After all categories, judges name the Superior House of the Week and the two worst-performing Houses.
The Mother or Father of each bottom House selects a member for a vogue redemption battle; the winning House stays, the losing House is eliminated. In season 2, judges scored each performance, and the sum of scores determined House standings.
