Game format
Six dancers began on the dancing podium, and three dance routines (such as disco, boy bands, or Michael Jackson) were presented. A randomizer selected a power dancer, who then chose a routine and a partner to face. The DJ, sometimes wearing props for the routine, announced the artist and song. The power dancer performed first, followed by the partner.
Only the studio audience voted; results were revealed after the first commercial break, following an interview about the audience's selection and the dancer's moves. The dancer with the most votes advanced to a safe zone, while the other surrendered their dancing shoes. This process repeated until two dancers and one routine remained. The randomizer then chose a power dancer, who could either pass to a partner or dance.
The top three semifinalists moved on. In the next round, the randomizer selected a power dancer from the three semifinalists, who could dance or pass to an opponent. Before dancing, each dancer told the host the song and artist they would perform and why they chose it. The dancer then selected one of five props from the prop wall and began dancing; a whooshing sound signaled them to dance with the prop.
After the performance, either the remaining power dancer chose to pass or play, or the randomizer selected a new power dancer with the same option. The new dancer chose a prop not yet used. The last dancer or a power dancer who had not yet danced performed using one of three remaining props. After a commercial break, results were announced in no particular order, and the top two finalists advanced to the final round.
