Young fashion designers compete for prizes and a spot in Seventeen.
Last updated
Project Runway: Threads is a spin-off of the reality competition Project Runway, focusing on skilled teen and tween fashion designers. It premiered on Lifetime on October 23, 2014.
Each week, three new young competitors vie for a prize package worth over $25,000. The prizes include $10,000 to be used at any Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts Store or joann.com; a scholarship to the summer program at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, including travel expenses; a top-of-the-line sewing and embroidery studio courtesy of Brother International Corporation; and the winning designer's look will appear in Seventeen. The host is Vanessa Simmons, who also serves as a judge, joined by regular judges Christian Siriano (Project Runway Season 4 winner) and Ingrid Nilsen, a YouTube vlogger known as "Missglamorazzi." One or two guest judges appear each episode.
Format
Each episode kicks off with a "Show Us Your Style Challenge," where the three contestants show off a pre-made outfit that reflects their personal style. The one who wins gets an advantage over their adversaries. The designers each bring an adult assistant to help with the main challenge and a "Surprise Door Twist," which asks them to reimagine a white dress. They have unlimited access to the Jo-Ann Fabric Room and the Brother Sewing and Embroidery Studio.
