Anagnorisis was founded in 2003 by Austin Lunn as a solo project. The lineup expanded to include bassist Zachary Kerr, drummer Adam Pierce, and guitarist Zak Denham before the release of the Overton Trees Sampler in 2005. The band signed to Shiven Records in 2007 and released their first full-length album, Overton Trees, in November of that year. Lunn left the band in 2008 to form Panopticon, and vocalist Nathan Bowling joined. After tours in 2008 and 2009, Bowling and drummer Adam Pierce both departed. The band released the EP Alpha & Omega in early 2009 with Bowling on vocals.

In 2012, the band added drummer Chris Smith and bassist Josh Mumford. They released the tribute EP Ghosts of Our Fathers, featuring then-bassist Zachary Kerr on vocals and guest vocalist Julian Kersey of Rose Funeral. After a tour with Abigail Williams, the band wrote and recorded Beyond All Light, released in July 2013. The album was recorded and mixed by guitarist Zak Denham. In late 2015, the band announced a follow-up, Peripeteia, which was released on October 21, 2016, on Vendetta Records. In 2017, keyboardist Samuel Hartman departed amicably, leaving the group as a four-piece with full-time drummer Cody McCoy. After nearly a decade of dormancy, the band announced a new record, Caregriever, to be released on October 23, 2026.

Formation & Early Turbulence (2003–2009)

The album continued the band's tradition of self-recording under Denham's direction. The period also brought another notable lineup change: in 2017, longtime keyboardist Samuel Hartman announced his amicable departure from the group. With his exit, Anagnorisis settled into a four-piece configuration, with Cody McCoy stepping in as the full-time drummer. This streamlined lineup represented a new chapter for the Louisville-based band, one that would ultimately be followed by an extended period of creative silence before their next public announcement.

The Long Silence & Caregriever (2017–2026)
