Blue's Clues & You!

Did You Know?

• The series was removed from Paramount+ on March 28, 2024, as part of a strategic decision to focus on content with mass global appeal.
• In Canada, the series premiered on Treehouse TV on the same day as the U.S. date.

Premise

Like the original series, Blue's Clues & You! uses live-action and animation, with digitally animated characters that retain the original visual style. The show incorporates built-in silences to encourage audience participation, using direct address to invite preschoolers to play along and solve mini-mysteries. Producers considered how modern preschoolers have more access to technology but still need a slower pace for developmental and emotional needs.

Cast and characters

Blue, a blue puppy, is voiced by Traci Paige Johnson and leaves pawprint clues. Josh, played by Josh Dela Cruz, is the host and cousin of Steve and Joe from the original series. Their children include Paprika (voiced by Shechinah Mpumlwana, Abigail Nicholson, Abigail Oliver), Cinnamon (Jaiden Cannatelli, Niko Ceci, Jayd Deroché), and twins Sage and Ginger. Rainbow Puppy (Brianna Bryan) is Periwinkle's friend. Steve (Steve Burns) is Josh's cousin and the original series' first host.

Production

In 2017, creators Angela C. Santomero and Traci Paige Johnson received permission to develop a 20-episode reboot. Over a thousand people auditioned, and on September 13, 2018, Josh Dela Cruz, an understudy for Disney's Aladdin on Broadway, was announced as host. Dela Cruz, who watched the original show with his sister, is the only Asian-American to host Blue's Clues. Johnson reprises her role as Blue, and Steve Burns participated in casting. 9 Story Media Group and Brown Bag Films co-produce; animators updated objects like the notebook doubling as a smartphone.

Filming occurs at 9 Story's Toronto studio. A first-look trailer released May 27, 2019, and an extended theme song on August 2. On August 26, 2019, the premiere date of November 11 was announced, with original hosts Burns and Donovan Patton returning. Burns was initially reluctant but was persuaded by fans.

The series was renewed for a second season (20 episodes) on November 19, 2019, a third (20 episodes) on February 19, 2020, a fourth (26 episodes) on February 18, 2021, and a fifth (26 episodes) on March 24, 2022. On July 17, 2025, Dela Cruz confirmed only four episodes of season five were produced and the show was abruptly canceled.
