Characters

George is a friendly but dim-witted strong man living in a loincloth in an African jungle. He possesses incredible strength and bravery, often crashing into trees while vine-swinging, and refers to himself in the illeism. In season 2, his design resembles the original 1967 version and his voice is deeper. Ape is a sarcastic, intelligent gorilla who lives with George and acts as his surrogate brother and voice of reason, though his attempts to educate George repeatedly fail.

Ape is revealed to be 5 years old in ape years; he dances uncontrollably when hearing Mitch's bongos and also dances on his fingers when George plays a leaf kazoo. In season 2, Ape gains a British accent like in the original series. Ursula appears in season 1 as an urban girl who comes to the jungle with her father Dr. Scott; she bonds with Magnolia after they save each other from drowning. She is young and reckless, often trying to introduce modern culture to the jungle with mixed results. In season 2, Magnolia replaces Ursula; she studies and ventures the jungle alone, dreaming of winning the Nobel Prize.

Production

Production began in 2004 with Teletoon involved before Cartoon Network joined. Tiffany Ward re-aged George to be a teenager, and the art style resembles Cartoon Network series such as The Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack. Flash animation was used, with Studio B being an early adopter. The 2007 series gives more prominence to relationships among core characters compared to the 1967 series. All scripts were freelanced.
