Operation Countdown
The Battle of Comona Islands is another name for Operation Countdown, which ranked among the most significant aerial conflicts in the nine years after the Belkan War.[1] The ISAF aimed to put a reconnaissance satellite into orbit to support their upcoming landings on the Usean mainland, and this mission was the focus of the battle.[1] The date of Operation Countdown was December 31, 2004, and its location was the Comona Islands.[6]

Prelude
The Eruseans responded by deploying a large number of air-superiority fighters to prevent the launch.[2] Because Stonehenge prevented any reconnaissance aircraft from flying over the mainland, the satellite launch became essential for the ISAF's military campaign.[2] To protect the rocket and guarantee the launch, the ISAF deployed its own air units to control the airspace above it.[2]
Summary
During the engagement, Mobius 1 engaged and damaged a Yellow Squadron fighter, after which Yellow Squadron withdrew and retreated northwest.[3] After Yellow Squadron's retreat, the tide turned in ISAF's favor, and AWACS SkyEye detected a squadron of B-2 bombers approaching from the west.[3] Mobius 1 intercepted the bombers while other ISAF pilots remained in the dogfight over the launchpad.[3] The Erusean forces included the 156th Tactical Fighter Wing, nicknamed Yellow Squadron, which was dispatched to stop the satellite from launching by destroying it.[3]
Result
The rocket lifted off without issue, and the satellite began its journey into the upper atmosphere.[4]
Trivia
The geography of the operation zone mirrors Florida: the bridges and airfield are similar to Key West, and the launch site is reminiscent of Cape Canaveral.[5]
