Music video
The music video for "Wake Up Call" was shot in Los Angeles during July 2007, with Jonas Åkerlund directing. It is styled like a trailer for a fictional NC-17 movie. The clip opens with Adam Levine’s love interest, Kim Smith, speaking to a suspicious Levine and pleading for forgiveness because she slept with another man, an unknown antagonist. Levine then comes home, hears sounds from the bedroom, kicks the door open, and finds his girlfriend cheating with the man, played by Jeremy Sisto.
As his girlfriend tries to stop the fight and justify her actions, Levine shoots the man in the chest, killing him while she watches in shock. Levine hides the body and drags it out of the room. The rest of the video shows the other Maroon 5 members committing various crimes, while Levine and Smith work through an elaborate scheme to hide the murder. In the end, Levine is arrested and taken into custody.
A director’s cut adds extra footage, including guitarist James Valentine flipping off the camera during a mug shot and a final scene where Levine receives a death sentence for the killing.
