Last updated

Tracey McBean is an Australian animated television series that aired on ABC Kids from 2002 until 2006. It was a co-production between Southern Star, Shanghai Animation Studios, and Egmont Imagination for its first series. The show ran for three series.

Premise

Tracey McBean is a nine-year-old girl who attends school with her best friend Shamus. She uses her inventions for various purposes, including school competitions and recreation. Tracey lives in a house, while Shamus resides on the 15th floor of a tall apartment building. Shamus enjoys organic gardening, and Tracey likes inventing devices and contraptions.

She works in a white caravan with a horizontal thick red stripe, an antenna, and a computer stocked with many parts. Tracey's younger sister Megan often annoys her, prompting Tracey to invent something to stop the irritation. The McConnolly brothers, Jim and Jake, are antagonists who attend Tracey's school; they frequently act as rivals or nuisances. Jim McConnolly is the leader, sometimes using his brother as a tool to take food or items from other students.

Jake is obese and dim-witted but occasionally shows brief intelligence for amusement. Laszlo, a member of a boys-only science club, is Tracey's arch-rival with equal or lower intelligence and fewer morals. In most episodes, Tracey invents a device with good intentions that leads to a minor disaster or failure, requiring her to find a solution. The inventions rarely have scientific basis and often possess fantastic power or exaggerated function.
