Playing career
Anthony Peluso’s path to professional hockey began in the Ontario Hockey League, where he played for three teams. The Erie Otters selected him 10th overall in the 2005 OHL draft. In November 2007, Erie traded him to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for Sean Jones, a 2008 fourth-round pick, and a 2009 third-round pick. He was later moved to the Brampton Battalion in January 2009, finishing his major junior career there. The St. Louis Blues signed him to a three-year entry-level contract on March 12, 2009. During the 2013-14 season, he received a three-game suspension on December 15 for boarding Dallas defenseman Alex Goligoski. Before the lockout-shortened 2012-13 campaign, the Winnipeg Jets claimed him off waivers from the Blues on January 16, 2013. As a restricted free agent, he signed a two-year, $1.125-million extension with the Jets on July 22, 2013. He netted his first NHL goal on October 24, 2013, against Nashville goaltender Carter Hutton. On June 17, 2015, the Jets re-signed him to a two-year deal worth $1.35 million. After five seasons with Winnipeg, he left as a free agent and signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Washington Capitals on July 1, 2017. He was initially assigned to the AHL’s Hershey Bears, but after three games there, he was recalled to the NHL. He played two games for the Capitals before finishing the season back with the Bears, recording 11 points in 38 contests. On August 21, 2018, he inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Calgary Flames. He started the 2018-19 season with their AHL affiliate, the Stockton Heat, but was called up to the NHL on October 6. Unable to land an NHL deal after his time with the Flames, he signed a one-year AHL contract with the Bakersfield Condors, the Edmonton Oilers’ affiliate, on July 17, 2019.
