FA Cup 2012
From humble beginnings to the top tier of English women's football.
West Ham United Women Football Club is an English women's football club affiliated with West Ham United. The club plays in the Women's Super League, the top tier of English women's football. They were formed in 1991 and play home games at Dagenham & Redbridge's Chigwell Construction Stadium on Victoria Road.
Lore & Background
The club was formed in early 1991 when Roger Morgan, the Football in the Community officer at West Ham United, mooted the idea. After initial coaching sessions and the capture of John Greenacre, the first friendly match was on 29 March 1992, a defeat to Barnet Ladies. Two teams entered the Greater London Regional Women's Football League for the following season. The club won promotion through the divisions, reached the FA Women's Premier League in 13 seasons, and later saw significant changes in the 2010s including management by Julian Dicks and later Marc Nurse. In summer 2016, the team toured the Netherlands. The Ladies were absorbed into the main club after the Hunts were replaced as Chairmen.
