Frank Lampard Sr.

West Ham's left-back from 1967 to 1985 and father of Frank Lampard.

Frank Richard George Lampard, born 20 September 1948, is an English former professional footballer. A left-back, he spent the bulk of his career at West Ham United, also had a short stint with Southend United, and earned two caps for the England senior team. He is the father of Frank Lampard, the former Chelsea midfielder and manager, and is often called "Frank Lampard Senior" or "Frank Senior" to avoid confusion.

Lampard was born in East Ham in 1948 to Frank Richard Lampard (1920–1953) and Hilda Drucilla (or Drusilla) Stiles (1928–2014). His sister Gwendoline, two years younger, was born in 1950. His father died in 1953 at age 33, when Lampard was just five.

He joined West Ham United's youth team in 1964. His first-team debut came in November 1967, a 3–2 home loss to Manchester City, and he soon secured the left-back spot. West Ham awarded him a testimonial match on 2 November 1976, a 3–1 win for a West Ham XI against Fulham at the Boleyn Ground. At the club, he won the FA Cup twice (1975 and 1980) and the Second Division title in 1981. By the end of the 1984–85 season, when he left on a free transfer, he had played 660 games, scored 22 goals, and worn the number 3 shirt. He then moved to Southend United for the 1985–86 season, managed by former West Ham star Bobby Moore, making 38 appearances before retiring.

Internationally, Lampard earned four England Under-23 caps and made his senior debut against Yugoslavia in October 1972.

After playing, he returned to West Ham as assistant manager under his brother-in-law Harry Redknapp from 1994 to 2001. On 24 November 2008, he became a football consultant to new Watford manager Brendan Rodgers, and followed Rodgers to Reading in June 2009 for a similar role. He left Reading when Rodgers departed by mutual consent on 17 December 2009.

Lampard married Patricia Harris, who died on 24 April 2008 from pneumonia complications. They had three children: Natalie, Claire, and Frank Jr., the latter a professional footballer and manager. Patricia's twin sister is Sandra Redknapp, wife of manager Harry Redknapp. Lampard is also uncle to former England player Jamie Redknapp. In 2019, he became landlord of The Nightingale public house in Wanstead, London.

His honours with West Ham United include the FA Cup (1974–75, 1979–80) and the Football League Second Division (1980–81).
