Background

Stephen Strasburg and Justin Verlander started, as in Game 2. Anthony Rendon's first-inning run batted in was answered by Jose Altuve's sacrifice fly and Alex Bregman's home run, but Adam Eaton and Juan Soto homered in the fifth for a 3-2 lead. In the seventh Trea Turner was called out for runner's interference, and Dave Martinez was ejected arguing the call, the first manager ejected from a World Series game since 1996. Later that inning Rendon hit a two-run homer off Will Harris, and his two-run double in the ninth made it 7-2; he drove in five runs in all. Strasburg held Houston to two runs over 8 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts. It was the first time in MLB, NBA or NHL history that the road team won the first six games of a best-of-seven series.
