Background
It was the franchise's 26th season. From June 1 until the strike the Expos went 46-18, and their .649 winning percentage is the best in franchise history, a pace of 105-57 over a full schedule. Five Expos represented the National League at the All-Star Game in Pittsburgh, where Moises Alou had the game-winning hit. Before the season Montreal had traded Delino DeShields to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Pedro Martinez. Felipe Alou managed the club, and after the strike the Expos sold off their best players.
