Background

Max Scherzer and Zack Greinke started, the first World Series Game 7 between two former Cy Young winners. Yuli Gurriel homered in the second and Carlos Correa singled in a run in the fifth, and Greinke had allowed one hit through six innings. In the seventh Anthony Rendon homered, Greinke walked Juan Soto and was replaced by Will Harris, and Howie Kendrick's two-run homer off the right-field foul pole put Washington ahead 3-2. Soto singled in Adam Eaton in the eighth, and Eaton's bases-loaded single brought in two more in the ninth. Patrick Corbin threw three scoreless innings in relief for the win, and Daniel Hudson finished by striking out Michael Brantley. It was Washington's first World Series title since the Senators in 1924.
