Background
In the 1981 National League Division Series the Expos beat the Philadelphia Phillies three games to two: they won Games 1 and 2 at Olympic Stadium, both 3-1, lost twice at Veterans Stadium, and took the deciding Game 5 in Philadelphia 3-0 with Steve Rogers the winning pitcher. In the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers they led two games to one, then lost Game 4 7-1 and Game 5 2-1 at Olympic Stadium on October 19, 1981, when Rick Monday hit a ninth-inning solo home run, a moment Expos fans call 'Blue Monday'. It was the closest the Expos came to a World Series in Montreal, and the franchise did not reach the postseason again until 2012, by then in Washington.
