When the trap was sprung, the loyalist forces found themselves surrounded by former brothers in arms. The battle that followed was brutal and one-sided initially, as the traitors held the advantage of surprise and orbital support. Despite the valiant resistance offered by the Ultramarines, Imperial Fists, and Blood Angels, the sheer scale of the betrayal proved overwhelming. The Emperor's forces were decimated in a slaughter unseen since the ancient wars. In the aftermath, the planet was subjected to continuous nuclear bombardment to ensure no survivors remained for the enemy to claim.
