Demeo

Demeo is a role-playing game from 2021, created by the Swedish studio Resolution Games, which also handled its publishing. It first launched as a virtual reality title for Oculus Quest and Windows, and later arrived on the PlayStation 5 through the PlayStation VR2 headset in 2023. The game draws inspiration from classic tabletop games like Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons, blending a tabletop aesthetic with survival mechanics. Players aim to reach the Nevermost Catacombs and defeat the enemy there, which requires clearing the Elvian Necropolis floor by floor. Each floor has a monster holding the key to the exit. The four playable heroes—The Guardian, The Assassin, The Sorcerer, and The Hunter—each have unique abilities. Two modes are available: Skirmish, where a single player controls up to three characters, and Multiplayer, which supports up to four players, each controlling one hero and taking turns. Combat is turn-based: each character gets two action points per turn to use on spells, special attacks, or items, all represented by cards. Example cards include Banish (teleports enemies), Barricade (blocks enemy attacks), and Repeating Ballista (fires three bolts each turn until the target is destroyed). Players can buy cards at an in-game shop called Cleepto's Bazzar. After its May 6, 2021 launch, Resolution Games announced a content roadmap that included the "Roots of Evil" expansion, a "Players Hangout" social space, and a PC edition. A spin-off, Demeo Battles, came out on November 9, 2023, and a spiritual successor, Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked, followed on November 20, 2025. According to review aggregator Metacritic, the game received generally favorable reviews. It was also nominated for Immersive Reality Game of the Year at the 25th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards.
