EDM4S
Portable anti-drone jammer developed by Lithuanian company NT Service.
The EDM4S SkyWiper, or Electronic Drone Mitigation 4 - System, is a portable anti-drone device made by the Lithuanian firm NT Service. It uses an electromagnetic pulse to jam the communications and satellite navigation of small to medium UAVs.
NT Service, based in Kaunas, first showed the device at the 2019 Security and Counter Terror Exhibition in London. The company also produces it with the Israeli firm Skylock under the name "Skybeam."
One person can carry the device. The operator aims it at a UAV and activates it to block the drone’s communications out to 3–5 km (2–3 mi), along with its satellite navigation. Depending on how autonomous the UAV is, it may drop from the sky, land in a controlled way, go back to an earlier waypoint, or keep flying normally.
The device comes with either 4 or 6 antennas. The standard setup includes two antennas for the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands (10 W each), one for the GPS 1.5 GHz band (10 W), and one for the GLONASS 1.5 GHz band (10 W). It is made of aluminum, and the "gun" part is modeled after the Heckler & Koch G36 rifle, with a trigger to activate it and optics for aiming. It weighs 5.5 kg and measures 1050 × 220 × 360 mm with the stock extended (830 × 220 × 360 mm without). A 24 V battery powers it for up to 60 minutes.
The EDM4S-UA version, costing US$15,000 per unit, was first used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against Russian separatist drones in Donbas in 2021 during the Russo-Ukrainian War. It has since been used in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, neutralizing drones like the Eleron-3. In June 2022, Lithuania donated 110 units to Ukraine for €1.5 million (US$1.56 million).
Current operators include the Lithuanian Armed Forces, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (EDM4S-UA), the Romanian Armed Forces (Skylock Skybeam), and the Nigerian Armed Forces (EDM4S SkyWiper).
