Sniper Elite 5 follows SOE sniper Karl Fairburne in 1944, attached to an Army Ranger battalion ahead of Operation Overlord. He assists in securing a beachhead and the village of Colline-Sur-Mer, but upon arrival the Americans' submarine is destroyed. Fairburne learns that Obergruppenführer Abelard Möller has killed most resistance contacts after discovering information on 'Operation Kraken'. Fairburne infiltrates a factory, destroys a prototype U-boat, and eventually uncovers that Kraken involves using U-boats to launch V-2 rockets at US cities. He destroys the Kraken fleet and assassinates Möller at his chateau.

The game was developed using Rebellion's in-house Asura engine. Photogrammetry was used to create levels, with some locations inspired by Guernsey. A pre-order bonus mission, 'Target Fuhrer: Wolf Mountain', allows players to infiltrate Hitler's private retreat in the Alps. The single-player campaign can be played cooperatively, and a survival mode accommodates up to four players.
