Background
Foltest's daughter, born of his incestuous relationship with his sister, rose as an undead monster called a striga, forcing the royal family of Temeria to abandon their castle; Foltest forbade anyone to destroy the striga and eventually hired Geralt to lift the curse. In Time of Contempt, when Aedirn, Rivia and Lyria fall quickly to the Nilfgaardian invaders, Foltest makes a pact with Emhyr and preserves his kingdom.
At the start of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Geralt is in prison under suspicion of assassinating Foltest, and is interrogated by Vernon Roche, the head of the Temerian special forces. By the time of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Temeria has recently been conquered and Vizima is its former capital.
