Nahel Bond

The bond between a spren and a human that makes a Knight Radiant.

Some sapient spren can form a symbiotic bond with a human that grants magic powers, Surgebinding; the Knights Radiant were Surgebinders. Rhythm of War includes illustrations of all the true spren who form Nahel bonds except the Bondsmith spren.

Lore & Background

In Rhythm of War, Adolin's trial among the honorspren in Shadesmar decides whether humans are worthy of such bonds again, and many honorspren agree to bond with humans after Maya's testimony. Kaladin swears the Fourth Ideal, Navani bonds the Sibling and Venli swears the Second Ideal of a Willshaper.
