The Shattered Plains are a landscape of vast chasms where, in The Way of Kings, the Alethi army fights the Parshendi to avenge King Gavilar. Bridgemen are forced to carry huge bridges so troops can cross the chasms under enemy arrows.

The Tower is the largest plateau on the Plains; there Sadeas betrays Dalinar and Kaladin's Bridge Four saves Dalinar's army. In Words of Radiance Kaladin and Shallan fall into a chasm and survive a chasmfiend, and Dalinar's assault on the Parshendi city of Narak ends when the Listeners summon the Everstorm. In Oathbringer Dalinar is made king of Urithiru and the Shattered Plains, and in Wind and Truth Sigzil leads Bridge Four in holding them against Odium's forces.
