Background
Six months after escaping the Matrix, Neo and Trinity are romantically involved, and an army of Sentinels is tunneling towards Zion, due to reach it within 72 hours. Inside the Matrix the Oracle tells Neo to reach its Source with the help of the Keymaker, whom the Merovingian, a rogue program with his own agenda, is holding prisoner.
The former Agent Smith, now a rogue program himself, can clone himself over other inhabitants of the Matrix; he overwrites the mind of Bane, a member of a Zion crew, and so enters the real world.
