The Legend of Korra: Ruins of the Empire

Plot

Three months after Kuvira's defeat and the dissolution of the Earth Empire, King Wu tries to institute democratic elections of state governors. Before the first election in Gaoling, Wu learns of Earth Empire separatists led by Commander Guan, a former subordinate of Kuvira, and fears they will disrupt the vote. Korra agrees to travel to Gaoling with Wu, her girlfriend Asami Sato, her friends Mako and Bolin, and the imprisoned Kuvira, who offers to talk Guan down. Guan and his forces arrive and refuse Kuvira's surrender; Kuvira attacks Guan but is electrocuted unconscious by Asami, who resents Kuvira for killing her father. Guan reveals he intends to participate in the election and have Earth Empire members do the same in other states, effectively restoring the Earth Empire. To foil him, Korra and her allies decide to have Toph Beifong stand against Guan, while Guan brainwashes people into voting for him. Korra and Wu travel to the Foggy Swamp to recruit Toph, where Wu has a vision of his deceased great-aunt Earth Queen Hou-Ting, who accuses him of establishing democracy to avoid responsibility. Guan attacks the docked airship in Korra's absence, capturing Asami, Mako, Bolin, and Kuvira. Kuvira escapes, but the others are brainwashed to support Guan. Kuvira contacts Suyin Beifong, her estranged mother figure and ruler of Zaofu, convincing her to help. Suyin arrives, and Kuvira urges Korra to flee to Zaofu for reinforcements and a way to break the brainwashing. Korra refuses to leave her friends, and they attempt a rescue. They capture Asami but lose King Wu, forcing a retreat to Zaofu. Guan prepares to brainwash Wu, while Kuvira reveals she needs help from her former fiancée Baatar Jr to break the brainwashing.
