Last updated

"Bones" is a song by American rock band the Killers, appearing as the eighth track on their 2006 album Sam's Town. It was released as the album's second single in late November 2006. The single reached number 21 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart and number 15 on the UK Singles Chart.

Music video

The music video for "Bones" was Tim Burton's first time directing a music video. Footage of the band was filmed over two days in August 2006 and then combined with computer-generated backgrounds and characters, including skeletons, a recurring element in Burton's work. Actors Michael Steger and Devon Aoki appear in the video. Behind the band, clips from Lolita, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and the skeleton-men scenes from Jason and the Argonauts by Ray Harryhausen are shown.

In one sequence, Brandon Flowers’ hand becomes a skeleton hand. Beach scenes from From Here to Eternity and 10 are recreated using skeleton figures. The main couple drives onto the beach, where the woman removes her hair to show her skull and the man takes off his shirt to reveal his skeleton. The two skeletons then run toward each other, collide, and shatter into pieces.

A wave washes over to reveal the skeletons kissing. By the end, the entire band has become skeletons, and they fall apart on the final note.

The drive-in shown is the West Wind Las Vegas Drive-In Theatre in North Las Vegas. The band's clothing from the video was kept in an exhibit at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino's entrance cafe until the cafe was torn down in late 2019. At the 2007 Shockwaves NME Awards, the video won Best Video.
