Marlon Brando
The actor who won an Oscar as Don Vito Corleone.
Marlon Brando (1924-2004) was an American actor widely regarded as one of the most influential performers in film history. He won two Academy Awards for Best Actor, for On the Waterfront (1954) and for playing crime boss Vito Corleone in The Godfather (1972), Coppola's adaptation of Mario Puzo's 1969 novel. In the early 1970s he was considered "unbankable" and casting Vito was one of the main points of disagreement between Coppola and the studio, though Coppola's handwritten casting notes show Brando as a favourite for the part.
