Tattaglia Family

The Tattaglia family is a rival New York crime family in The Godfather. It backs the drug baron Virgil "The Turk" Sollozzo after Vito Corleone refuses to protect his narcotics business, and its men garrotte Luca Brasi when he tries to become a mole in Sollozzo's operation. Sonny's revenge killing of Bruno Tattaglia, the family head's son, and Michael's killing of Sollozzo and Captain McCluskey turn the conflict into a war, with the other New York families backing the Tattaglias. After the peace meeting, Vito realises that Barzini, not Tattaglia, was behind Sonny's death.
