Crucifix

A cross bearing the figure of Jesus.

A crucifix is a cross bearing an image of Jesus, as opposed to a bare cross; the name comes from the Latin cruci fixus, 'fixed to a cross', and the figure of Jesus on it is called the corpus. It is one of the main symbols of many Christian groups, above all the Catholic Church, and also appears in Lutheran, Anglican and Eastern Orthodox churches.
