Background
In 1964 a pregnant Lorraine investigates an antique mirror at a curio shop, collapses at a vision of an entity and her unborn child, and goes into labour; the baby, Judy, is stillborn until Lorraine's prayers revive her. In 1986 the Smurl family of West Pittston, Pennsylvania, receive the same mirror as a confirmation gift and are terrorised by three entities.
Ed's heart condition has retired the Warrens from investigating. After Father Gordon dies seeking help for the Smurls, Judy, now engaged to Tony, goes to Pennsylvania on her own and persuades her parents to follow. The Warrens realise the mirror holds the demon from their first case and that it is hunting Judy; with Judy embracing her psychic abilities and the Prayer to Saint Michael, they destroy it.
Reviews were mixed. A prequel, The Conjuring: First Communion, is set for release on September 10, 2027.
