Darwin Watterson
A goldfish who grew legs and became Gumball's brother and best friend.
Darwin Raglan Caspian Ahab Poseidon Nicodemus Watterson III is a 10-year-old orange goldfish adopted by the Watterson family in The Amazing World of Gumball. He was first given to Gumball as a pet, then sprouted legs and became a full member of the family and Gumball's closest friend. Optimistic and always trying to do the right thing, he tags along on Gumball's schemes while acting as his voice of reason, even though his kindness sometimes works against him, and he has the odd habit of calling his adoptive parents Mr. Dad and Mrs. Mom. His arc takes him from a naive beginning to greater maturity. He and Carrie Krueger became a couple in "The Matchmaker", and he is voiced by Hero Hunter in the 2025 revival.

Gumball Watterson
Gumball Tristopher Watterson, originally named Zach Tristopher Watterson, is the main protagonist of the show. He is a 12-year-old blue cat who lives with his family and attends middle school with Darwin and Anais. His middle name was intended to be Christopher but was misspelled as Tristopher on his birth certificate, as revealed in "The Club". In "The Name", he discovered his legal name was Zach and used it temporarily before changing it to Gumball. After "The Shell", he began dating Penny. Initially well-meaning but naive, Gumball later became more serious, logical, and sarcastic. Though he has a large ego and sometimes overreacts, he is loyal, straightforward, good-natured, and protective of his loved ones.
Anais Watterson
Anais Errrrrr Watterson is a pink rabbit and Gumball's 4-year-old sister. She is highly precocious, being one grade above her brothers, and often tells Gumball what to do. She frequently tags along with him as a voice of reason, though she can be impatient. Anais has also been shown manipulating her family to get what she wants. Despite her intelligence, she sometimes acts childishly and is socially inept, struggling to form friendships because she drives potential friends away with excessive clinginess. In "The Gumball Chronicles: Ancestor Act", it was revealed that her middle name is "Errrrrr", as Richard did not have enough time to choose a middle name.
