Everett Peck, the creator of the 1990s USA Network series Duckman, also made Squirrel Boy for Cartoon Network. The show ran from May 29, 2006 to September 27, 2007, producing 52 eleven-minute segments. A set of six additional shorts aired in 2008 as part of the Cartoon Network Extra mini-series.

Overview
The series follows Rodney, an anthropomorphic squirrel voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz, who constantly devises wild ideas and get-rich-quick schemes. His best friend and owner is a boy named Andy Johnson, voiced by Pamela Adlon. Andy's family includes his father Robert, voiced by Kurtwood Smith, a pessimistic and unlucky man who strongly dislikes Rodney, and his mother Lucille, voiced by Nancy Sullivan, who is cheerful and mild-tempered. The main antagonists are Kyle Finkster, voiced by Billy West, and his anthropomorphic parrot Salty Mike, voiced by Carlos Alazraqui, a pair of neighborhood bullies. Other characters include Oscar, Andy's nerdy friend with overprotective parents; Leon, a stray blue squirrel who lives in a tree in the Johnsons' backyard; Darlene, a yellow stray squirrel who is Rodney's love interest; Martha, a nerdy human child prodigy who is Andy's love interest; and Esther Flatbottom, a cranky old lady who rides a motorized cart.
