The Fungies!

The Fungies! is an animated comedy series from Cartoon Network Studios, created by Stephen P. Neary for HBO Max. Its first season arrived on the streaming service in two batches during 2020, with a Cartoon Network broadcast starting in 2021. The show ended after its third season in December 2021. Warner Bros. Discovery removed it from HBO Max in August 2022 as part of budget cuts, a decision Neary publicly criticized. Digital purchases were also pulled in October 2023.

Release and broadcast

The third and final season was released on December 16, 2021. The show was removed from HBO Max on August 18, 2022, and from digital purchase in October 2023. Creator Stephen P. Neary criticized the service for its decision.
Reception
Critical reception for The Fungies! was mixed. Common Sense Media rated it 4 out of 5 stars, noting that silliness appeals to children while parents appreciate underlying content. Mashable gave a favorable review, describing a balance between children's programming and deadpan absurdism involving mushrooms, dinosaurs, and a talking stump. Scoops Animation Corner scored it 5 out of 10, stating the show lacked adult-tinged humor but was a great animation experiment.
