Overview

Celebrity Paranormal Project, sometimes called CPP, was a paranormal reality show on VH1 that aired between late October and mid-December 2006. It was essentially the same concept as MTV's Fear, but with famous participants and a different title. The series later became available on iTunes and Xbox Live.

Each episode brought together four or five celebrities who were taken to a reportedly haunted building at night. They stayed there until dawn, tasked with finding evidence of ghosts. On arrival, the group received a short history of the site and details about past sightings. The celebrities were given equipment like infrared cameras and EMF meters, and surveillance cameras were placed throughout the building to record everything.

The investigation began with two celebrities exploring a specific area while the rest monitored them from a surveillance station. Those at the station guided the pair toward a particular spot. The two explorers had to perform tasks meant to provoke paranormal activity, using the provided gear within a set time. When they finished, they returned to base. Then another pair took their turn in a different part of the location, doing similar tasks. Depending on the site, there were three or four such explorations, meaning some celebrities went in twice. The goal was to locate the "heart of the haunting," the spot with the strongest paranormal energy. At the end of the show, the whole group chose this location.

After that, the celebrities decided among themselves who had the strongest connection to the supernatural. That person, along with the entire group, then entered the heart of the haunting one last time. They carried a scroll, a book of instructions, and an object meant to contact a specific spirit. The chosen celebrity acted as a conduit, attempting to let the spirit enter their body. After this experience, the show concluded, and the group said goodbye to the haunted location.
