The first MCU television series, following S.H.I.E.L.D. agents through seven seasons.

Last updated

After the destruction of S.H.I.E.L.D., Coulson becomes director and rebuilds while facing Hydra, anti-superhuman agents, and the newly-revealed Inhumans.[1] Phil Coulson, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, leads a small team that investigates unusual cases, and they eventually discover Hydra's secret control of the organization.[1]

Making and release

Whedon, his brother Jed, and Maurissa Tancharoen pitched their idea to Loeb on August 8, 2012.[2] ABC ordered a pilot for a series called S.H.I.E.L.D. at the end of August 2012.[2] Jed Whedon, Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell served as the series' showrunners.[3] Following Disney's 2009 acquisition of Marvel Entertainment, a new Marvel Television division was established with Jeph Loeb at its head.[4]

ABC revealed in April 2013 that the show would be called Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.[3] In May 2013, the show received a full-season order consisting of 22 episodes.[3]

What the cited sources add

Foley watched all the Marvel films again before starting the pilot, with special attention to The Avengers.[5] Foley stated that she loved Skyfall and Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol and wanted the show to have a similar vibe.[5] Foley noted that Bobi Garland from the Western Costume Research Library was invaluable in helping with research for each episode.[6] Bell described how, while one writer works on a script, two others can develop other stories, enabling a new story to be broken approximately every two weeks.[7]
