The T-14 Armata is a Russian fourth-generation main battle tank (MBT) built on the Armata Universal Combat Platform. Its development followed the cancellation of the T-95 project in 2010, after which Uralvagonzavod initiated the OKR Armata design study, resulting in the Object 148. A contract for a test batch of 100 tanks was signed in 2016, with delivery expected by 2020, but by 2019 only 16 of a contracted 132 Armata-platform vehicles had been delivered. In 2020, problems with the engine and thermal-imaging equipment were resolved, and production of 132 vehicles began. In December 2021, Rostec announced serial production had commenced, with over 40 tanks anticipated after 2023. On 4 March 2024, Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov claimed the T-14 had entered service, though this was unconfirmed.
