William Diego

Background

His father's actions on Citadel Station and his mother's suicide in 2073 hung over his life, and he vowed never to repeat his father's mistakes. He became the hero of the Battle of Boston Harbor during the Eastern States police action, a victory the UNN heavily propagandized. Married to a TriOptimum board member, he helped reach the compromise between the corporation and the UNN that led to the Von Braun expedition, and promised the drive's designer Marie Delacroix an extended deadline that shrank to three months.

On the voyage he distrusted the Von Braun's commander, Anatoly Korenchkin; when a distress signal came from Tau Ceti V, both went down to the crash site, the remains of Citadel's Beta Grove, and fell under the psychic influence of the Many. Diego resisted better than the others but did not stop Korenchkin bringing the eggs aboard, and under the Many's control helped crush Melanie Bronson's martial law. He broke free only once the soldier began fighting back, makes contact when the player reaches the Rickenbacker, and is found dead in its Med Bay carrying one final audio log.
