The series chronicles the investigation into Death Gun, a serial killer whose victims die in reality after being shot by him in GGO. Kirito enters GGO and meets Sinon, who helps him prepare for the next Bullet of Bullets tournament, where Death Gun is expected to appear. During the BoB, Kirito deduces Death Gun's method of killing and faces him in a battle, winning. After logging out, Kirito rushes to Shino Asada's house and saves her from the real-world Death Gun killer, Kyoji Shinkawa. The two later discover there was one last person in the Death Gun group: Atsushi Kanomoto, otherwise known as Johnny Black.
