Pink Diamond

The Diamond who shattered her own identity to become the mother of a new world.

Pink Diamond is one of the five ruling Diamonds of the Gem Homeworld. She is the former ruler who oversaw the Earth colony and was believed to have been shattered by Rose Quartz. However, the truth revealed later was that Pink Diamond never died; she chose to shatter her own physical form to escape the rigid expectations of Homeworld and live as Rose Quartz among the rebels. Her death was faked: she staged her own assassination to break free from her former life as a Diamond. Susan Egan directly voices Pink Diamond and Rose Quartz in the series.

Lore & Background

In the series, Pink Diamond is voiced directly by Susan Egan. In the episode 'Volleyball', Pink Pearl (nicknamed 'Volleyball') reminisces romantically over Pink Diamond, to which Garnet sneers, 'Looks like someone's still got it bad', insinuating that - like Pearl once did - Pink Pearl still harbors romantic feelings towards the late Pink Diamond. However, it is later revealed that Pink Diamond accidentally injured Pink Pearl's eye during an outburst of anger, causing irreparable psychological trauma that is reflected in Pink Pearl's physical form. This reveals a darker side to Pink Diamond's history, showing that her actions had lasting consequences even among those who loved her.

Reader's Guide

Pink Diamond was one of the five ruling Diamonds of the Gem Homeworld. She oversaw the Earth colony, but her actions led to the rebellion and the Crystal Gems. The source reveals that Pink Diamond physically abused Pink Pearl, causing irreparable psychological trauma. This abuse is a key part of her character, showing that even after her 'death', her influence continued to affect those around her. The series does not depict Pink Diamond directly, but her legacy is explored through the characters she impacted, such as Pink Pearl and the other Diamonds.
