Background
The Kindergarten project was the empire's scheme to convert Earth into a Gem-occupied world; Amethyst was the last Gem made on Earth under it. Ruins across the planet were once important to Gem culture but have been derelict for millennia. The colonization of Earth was overseen by Pink Diamond, who in secret created the identity of Rose Quartz, fell in love with the planet's life, led the rebellion against her own colony and faked her assassination to escape her former life. Late in the first season Peridot is sent by Homeworld to check on the remaining Gem installations on Earth, and in the second season she helps the Crystal Gems neutralize the Cluster, a buried Gem geo-weapon that could destroy the planet. Jasper, a Quartz warrior created on Earth under Pink Diamond, holds a long grudge against the planet.
