Gem Glow
The first episode: Steven tries to summon his shield with Cookie Cat ice cream.
"Gem Glow" is the first episode of Steven Universe, opening the first season. Steven believes his favourite ice cream sandwiches, Cookie Cats, are what makes his gem summon its weapon, and he has to learn otherwise while the Crystal Gems fight an acid-spitting insect monster.

Background
The episode opens with Steven upset that Cookie Cat has been discontinued; Sadie gives him the old freezer, and the Gems surprise him with the last batch. When he eats one his gem glows, and he asks each Gem how to call up a weapon. Pearl talks about training and precision, Amethyst says hers simply comes to her, and Garnet speaks of connecting with everything around her, which leaves Steven more confused. On his second try the glow turns into a shield, which bounces around the house and breaks the TV. When the Centipeetle Mother attacks, the shield will not appear, so Steven throws the broken freezer at her instead, the Gems defeat the monster and Garnet bubbles its gem, and Steven accepts that ice cream is not the answer.
