Reader's Guide
The founding of the New Republic followed the end of the Galactic Empire. Its military arm was formed from the Rebel Alliance, creating the New Republic Military. The primary goal during this phase was the consolidation of power and the removal of Imperial remnants. As shown in Star Wars: The Mandalorian, these efforts were eventually overwhelmed by a new threat: the First Order. Under the direction of Supreme Leader Snoke, the First Order destroyed the New Republic, as depicted in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
