Eugenics Wars

The Eugenics Wars, also called the Great Wars, were a series of conflicts on Earth in Star Trek, originally dated 1992 to 1996 in "Space Seed" and later shifted into the 21st century by temporal interference. They grew out of a scientific attempt to improve the human race through selective breeding and genetic engineering, which produced the Augments, "supermen" who seized power over much of humanity. The most notorious, Khan Noonien Singh, became absolute ruler of more than a quarter of the planet, from Asia through the Middle East, in 1992. The wars devastated parts of Earth and led to a ban on genetic engineering.
