Features

Players can engage in a revised career mode spanning ten full seasons, the longest since F1 2010 which allowed up to seven seasons. The game includes the twenty-one circuits from the 2016 season and in-game commentary from David Croft and Anthony Davidson. All eleven teams and twenty-two drivers from the championship are featured, including the return of Renault and the new Haas team. The game uses the grid from the Spanish Grand Prix, with Daniil Kvyat at Toro Rosso and Max Verstappen at Red Bull; Esteban Ocon was not included because he did not replace Rio Haryanto until after pre-release development ended, while the Kvyat and Verstappen swap occurred before development concluded. Players can choose the time of day for a race, customize helmet designs, and select a race number for career mode. The safety car returns with revised mechanics, and the Virtual Safety Car is introduced, along with manual starts, manual pit lane entry, and the formation lap, a first for a Codemasters game. The research and development system is revised for greater control over car performance. Team perception of the player decreases with poor results and increases with good results, leading to potential firing, demotion, or promotion. Online lobbies support grids of up to twenty-two cars.
