Gameplay
Heroes of Ruin is an action role-playing game where players fight enemies such as snipers, beasts, and fencers. It uses StreetPass for the Traders Network, allowing item trading with other players. In shops, items can be sold for points to buy otherwise unobtainable items. SpotPass provides daily challenges for a year after release, and a community website tracks completed challenges and offers more.
Plot
The story follows a mercenary seeking a cure for Ataraxis, a sphinx ruler of Nexus dying from a curse. The hero may ally with others or adventure alone. Four playable characters are available: the Vindicator, a Leomar warrior from Sanctum who wields two-handed swords and curative magic, seeking redemption; the Gunslinger, a former criminal using firearms and explosives, hoping to repay a debt; the Alchitect, a female elf from Requiem who uses magic and polearms, aiming to prove her worth; and the Savage, an exiled warrior who fights hand-to-hand, seeking power and glory. Fifty years after the War of Ruin, the hero travels by ship to Nexus but is shipwrecked by the Leviathan. Survivors include the elf Fironel and Princes Solon and Adrian. After reaching Nexus, Solon tasks the hero with finding Eckhardt, a sorcerer. Rescued with his daughter Katrina, Eckhardt reveals pirates forced him to create monsters, including the Leviathan. The hero then kills the Leviathan at Eckhardt's request.
