Production

Netflix ordered the series on December 11, 2018. Campanario Entertainment produced it, with Selena's father Abraham and sister Suzette involved, from a screenplay by Moisés Zamora. Other cast members include Noemi Gonzalez as Suzette Quintanilla, Seidy López as Marcella Quintanilla, and Madison Taylor Baez as a young Selena. Ricardo Chavira and Gabriel Chavarria were to play Selena's father and brother respectively. Additional co-stars include Julio Macias as Pete Astudillo, Jesse Posey as Chris Perez, Hunter Reese Peña as Ricky Vela, Carlos Alfredo, Jr. as Joe Ojeda, Juan Martinez as a young A.B. Quintanilla, Daniela Estrada as a young Suzette Quintanilla, and Paul Rodriguez, Jr. as Roger Garcia. Johnny Jay Lee and Fernanda Moya also co-star. Filming began in early October 2019 in Baja California, Mexico, in Rosarito, Tecate, and Tijuana. Christian Serratos finished filming the second season under COVID-19 health and safety protocols in November 2020.
