History
The show first aired on January 13, 2014, under the title Alexandra de noche. It occupied the 10:30 p.m. weekday slot, following the evening edition of Telenoticias. This late-night talk show lasted half an hour, beginning with a brief monologue from Fuentes before moving into a guest interview that took up the rest of the time. The program saw moderate success, improving ratings for the time slot and ranking second behind WAPA-TV.
In August 2016, Fuentes announced she would leave the show to support her husband David Bernier in his campaign for governor in the 2016 Puerto Rican general election. Her final episode aired on September 2, 2016, featuring guests Raymond Arrieta, Silverio Pérez, Papo Brenes, and WKAQ-TV president José Cancela. After her departure, the show was renamed Telemundo de noche, dropping Fuentes’ last name. A rotating lineup of guest hosts, including Myraida Chaves, Daniela Droz, and Alfonsina Molinari, took over. The broadcast time also shifted from 10:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Following Bernier’s loss in the election, Fuentes announced on November 16, 2016, that she would return to the show by November 30, 2016. On December 19, 2016, WKAQ-TV revealed the program would move to a new time slot and become a midday variety show. This marked the station’s first midday program since El Show de las 12 ended in 2005. The revamped show, titled Alexandra a las 12, expanded from half an hour to a full hour. It added news segments, weather reports, and political analysis, functioning as an extension of the 11:00 a.m. Telenoticias broadcast. The new format blended these newscast elements with Fuentes’ monologues, interviews, and comedy bits. The first episode of Alexandra a las 12 aired on January 16, 2017.
On March 29, 2021, WKAQ announced another extension, adding half an hour to the show. The program would now start at 11:30 a.m., directly competing with WAPA-TV’s midday show Pegate al mediodia. The first episode of this expanded version aired on April 12, 2021.
