Arcturus is a red giant in Boötes, the brightest star in the northern celestial hemisphere and fourth-brightest overall, with an apparent magnitude of -0.05. It lies 36.7 light-years away.
It is a K1.5III giant about 7.1 billion years old, about the Sun's mass but 25 times its size and about 170 times as luminous.
