Gravity Rush
A gravity-defying action-adventure set in the floating city of Hekseville.
Last updated
Players navigate the open world of Hekseville both on foot and by tilting the PlayStation Vita to aim Kat's "fall" direction.[1] In the action-adventure title Gravity Rush, players control Kat, who can alter gravity to traverse walls and soar through the air.[1] Kat's gravity powers consume an energy gauge that empties while in use and needs to replenish.[2]
Making and release
Impressed by the Vita's gyroscope system, Toyama decided to shift development to the Vita.[3] The game was announced under its Japanese title Gravity Daze as part of the Vita's unveiling.[4] Keiichiro Toyama first conceived the idea for Gravity Rush early in his career at Konami.[5] Toyama's initial concept was simply a vague notion of individuals drifting in space.[5]
Once Siren: Blood Curse was finished in mid-2008, the team moved into full-scale development.[6] Discovering that the Vita's processing capability was significantly lower than the PS3's, the team discarded their prior work and re-evaluated the project.[7] Gravity Rush launched in Japan on February 9, 2012, and in North America on June 12, 2012.[4][8] A PlayStation 4 high-definition remaster, created by Bluepoint Games, came out in Japan on December 10, 2015.[9]
What the cited sources add
The blog also mentions that Gravity Rush was set to float over to Europe on June 13th of that year.[10] Toyama wrote the lyrics for the ending theme based on a portion of the game's script.[11] Before Kat was finalized, art director Yoshiaki Yamaguchi produced the earliest sketches of the game's intended female lead.[12] Takeshi Oga was responsible for the game's concept art and cover illustration.[13]
