Making and release
Marvel Games ended its partnership with Activision in 2014, dissatisfied with the output under that publisher's quicker development schedules.[2][3] Insomniac chose Spider-Man because the team related to the dynamic between the hero and his alter-ego Peter Parker.[4] A remastered version, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, launched as a PlayStation 5 title in November 2020 and was bundled with the Ultimate Edition of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.[5][6] Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales launched in November 2020 on both the PlayStation 4 and as a launch title for the PlayStation 5.[7]
With assistance from support studio Nixxes Software, Sony put out Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales, and Spider-Man 2 on Windows between 2022 and 2025.[8] A February 2026 report indicated that Marvel's Wolverine and future titles were no longer anticipated for PC release, as SIE had withdrawn support for PC versions of single-player PlayStation Studios games.[8]
What the cited sources add
A PlayStation.Blog post from September 2020 detailed that the remaster recast Peter Parker's face model from John Bubniak to Ben Jordan to better match actor Yuri Lowenthal's facial capture.[6] The same post stated the remaster takes advantage of near-instant loading, Spatial 3D Audio, and the DualSense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.[6] A PC Gamer article from June 2022 reported that Spider-Man Remastered would be released on PC on August 12, 2022.[9] A PlayStation.Blog post from May 2023 announced that a prequel comic for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, written by Christos Gage with art by Ig Guara, would be released for Free Comic Book Day.[10]
The same post noted that Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered would become available for standalone purchase on the PlayStation Store on May 4, 2023.[10] A Polygon article from December 2023, citing leaked internal documents, reported that Insomniac's future roadmap includes Marvel's Venom (2025), Marvel's Wolverine (2026), Marvel's Spider-Man 3 (2028), and Marvel's X-Men (2030).[11] The Polygon article also stated that an internal document indicated Marvel cannot release or announce any X-Men games on console, PC, or streaming platforms through the end of 2035.[11]
